Assistant Professor, Hematology and Hematopathology 

The University of Chicago's Department of Pathology is searching for a full-time faculty member at assistant professor rank in Hematopathology. The appointee will have clinical responsibilities in hematopathology and the clinical hematology laboratory and will participate in the interpretation of lymph node and bone marrow specimens, flow cytometry studies and section quality improvement activities. The Hematopathology service provides support to other pathology services such as surgical pathology and cytopathology in interpretation and ancillary studies of the cases related to hematologic disorders. Other duties will include teaching and supervision of trainees and students, and scholarly activity. Strong interest and prior training in flow cytometry is desired.

  • The UCM Hematopathology service reviews approximately 1,600 bone marrow and 1,000 lymph node and consultation cases per year
  • The UCM Flow Cytometry laboratory performs approximately 6,500 studies annually, including 2,500 stand-alone interpretive studies
  • The Clinical Hematology laboratory performs approximately 450,000 complete blood counts with differentials, 57,000 urinalysis, 5,000 body fluid and 2,800 miscellaneous tests per year

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must: 1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible to hold a medical license in the State of Illinois, and 3) have board certification or eligibility for board certification in Hematopathology through the American Board of Pathology
